About Salty Pineapple

Salty Pineapple is a tropical dream world created by me, Kat Gaskin, that stands tall, inspires happiness, encourages kindness and nourishes your wanderlust.

For the girls who use the sun to tell time, who catch waves not feelings, who swim like mermaids, whose wardrobe is bikinis and denim shorts, who would rather watch the sunset than Netflix, whose bed is forever sandy, who drink coconuts more than Cosmos, who can't decide between salty or sweet, who put coconut oil on their lives, who let the ocean style their hair, who crave chocolate haupia pie, who choose bikinis over bras, who check Google Flights before brushing their teeth, who bring pineapples to the beach, who daydream about Tahiti, who can sing the words to Moana, who smile at palm trees, who feel beautiful without makeup, who love the beach, travel, adventure, pineapples, sunshine and living their greatest, fullest, happiest life...

About pages are boring. Let's be honest.

But here's a story that I want to share with you.

My name is Kat Gaskin, a beach-obsessed #girlboss who built my brand, Salty Pineapple, around floating fruit, being salty and dreaming BIG.

I was raised in Toronto, Canada and don't live anywhere near the ocean, but somehow there's a pastel paradise dreamworld living inside of my imagination.

Currently, I run two online businesses (The Content Planner + this shop) and call the world my office.

In high school, I knew that I wanted to run my own empire. My dream was to own a creative business where all I had to do was go in and sign the cheques.

Enter graphic design.

I graduated from post-secondary and immediately secured a 9 to 5 job in the city because that’s what we’re taught we need to do. It was fun, but overall pretty unfulfilling for my first few years of “adulthood”.

As social media rose in popularity, I could stalk people’s lives who were travelling non-stop with ultimate freedom. I knew my life was meant for something so much greater than a comfortable desk job. I was already doing freelance design jobs in my off-hours, so why couldn’t I just do freelance work full-time?

Enter my master Salty Pineapple plan.

I saved for 1.5 years while planning my corporate escape. October 2012 was when I finally made the giant leap and quit my job to start building my own brand, Salty Pineapple, full-time. It was so freakin’ liberating and scary! But also, the best feeling in the world.

After 2.5 years of hustling EVERY DAY and living a very frugal life (I’m not exaggerating at all — no haircuts, restaurants, shopping, NOTHING), I finally came to a point where I could afford to also travel and work freelance. All the while, I was sharing my art, stories, struggles, successes, design and beach-y pineapple obsession on my Instagram.

The rest is history and I know the best is yet to come.

Since making the leap to freelance freedom, I've been fortunate to travel to some of the most exotic and visually stunning places Mother Earth has created.

The foundation of my business has always been to “Be a pineapple. Stand tall, wear a crown and be sweet on the inside.” A phrase I created as a constant reminder to live a life filled with kindness, confidence and embracing what makes us truly shine.
